The NCCETC is a public service center chartered by the University of North Carolina System and administered by the College of Engineering at NC State University. The NCCETC works regionally in the Southeast and nationally to advance a sustainable energy economy through education, research, demonstration and partnerships. The NCCETC works on federal grants with the EPA and DOE and in partnership with local and national partners to advance sustainable energy practices.
The Policy and Markets team publishes research and analysis on pending, proposed, and in-progress policy changes in the clean energy sector, including distributed energy, grid modernization, electric vehicles and power decarbonization. The team’s reports, datasheets and their blog are all available at dsireinsight.com.
The team also conducts custom research for clients and maintains a database of currently available policies and financial incentives for renewable energy, energy efficiency, electric vehicles and more. The Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency (DSIRE) is available as a public good.
The Clean Power and Industrial Efficiency (CPIE) team offers customized, site-specific energy strategy support to industrial, commercial and institutional facilities throughout the Southeast. The team works to reduce operational energy costs and increase energy resilience through onsite generation (e.g., combined heat and power, renewable energies, district energy and heat recovery) and industrial assessments for energy efficiency or process optimizations.
The team administers the U.S. DOE Onsite Energy Technical Assistance Partnership for the Southeast region and partners with USDA's Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) in North Carolina. These two programs present CPIE with the opportunity to provide onsite energy strategic expertise to a broad range of energy end users from large manufacturing and industrial sites to small rural businesses and agricultural producers. CPIE’s overall mission is to deliver data-driven technical assistance to help clients solve problems, comply with mandates, reduce energy costs and reach sustainability goals.
The Clean Transportation (CT) division supports fleets and consumers through education, events, grant assistance and select fee-for-service contracts. The team hosts the annual Sustainable Fleet Technology Conference, the Sustainable Fleet Technology Webinar series, ride & drive events and leads the Piedmont and Coastal NC Clean Communities Coalition, which serves more than half of North Carolina's counties. Staff coordinates with industry experts to promote sustainable transportation through accessible programs that improve fleet operations in North Carolina and beyond.
The Training team offers online and in-person workshops and programs that range from short, certificate classes to in-depth Renewable Energy Diplomas. These programs cover the technical and financial side of clean energy. They partner with educational institutions and companies to create training programs specific to their needs.
