Nathan Shannon
President & CEO
As SECC's President & CEO, Nathan leads the organization's research, membership and policy initiatives. He came on as SECC's Deputy Director in early 2015 and grew membership almost 40% to over 150 members. Along with his work on the Research and Policy committees, Nathan leads member recruitment and engagement and routinely presents SECC 's research at industry conferences and policy workshops. He previously served as Director of Operations and Major Gifts Officer at Athens Land Trust where he had a focus on policy and sustainability through his work with land conservation and carbon credits. He also gained extensive knowledge in the realm of nonprofit development and capacity building. Ian Karra
Director of Strategic Alliances
Ian joined SECC as Director of Strategic Alliances in April 2026, supporting the organization’s growth through member development, recruitment, and engagement. He previously served as Senior Director of Public Engagement for the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), where he oversaw public involvement planning and constituent affairs, and as an affordable housing development project manager. Ian has a Master’s in City and Regional Planning and a Master’s in Real Estate Development from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Email Ian.
Jonathan Field
Communications Director
Jonathan joined the Smart Energy Consumer Collaborative in December 2016 as the Communications Specialist and became Communications Manager at the beginning of 2019 and Communications Director in 2021. He works on developing insightful content across various channels to expand the reach of SECC’s research and educational programs. Before SECC, he was an editor for a media and events company focusing on employee benefits. A native of Atlanta, he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from Georgia State University. Email Jonathan.
DeMika Thomas-Hill
Operations Manager
DeMika joined the Smart Energy Consumer Collaborative in November of 2011 as the Administrative Coordinator and became Office Manager at the beginning of 2018 and Operations Manager in 2021. As a member of the SECC team, she oversees and manages SECC’s operations, finances, member relations, charting SECC meetings and coordinating SECC events. Prior to joining SECC, she was the Event Coordinator/Administrative Assistant at Operation Step-up Inc., where she worked to create college scholarships for students in need. She also created a program in Cincinnati, Ohio where she tutored inner-city students in mathematics. DeMika received her degree from Miami University of Ohio in Social Science. Email DeMika.
