As electricity providers increasingly offer demand response (DR) solutions to balance the grid and avoid costly infrastructure upgrades, understanding consumer perspectives around DR has never been more important.
The “Consumer Understanding of Demand Response” survey – fielded to a nationally representative sample of 2,091 consumers – reveals insights on consumer openness to demand response, their understanding of the benefits, their preferences for program communications and more.
The survey found that 66% of Americans are either interested in participating in a behavioral DR program or are currently enrolled. Interest in direct load control programs is somewhat lower, but a majority of Americans (53%) are still interested or currently participating.
