Download a copy of SECC’s “Modern Energy Messaging: Transactions to Relationships” report, which focused on gaining clarity around the types of energy-related messages consumers are currently receiving and which messages are most likely to motivate them to act.
Based on a 20-minute online survey of 1,500 Americans who make household energy decisions, the report found that consumers are most likely to recall energy messages from their electricity providers. Fifty-five percent of consumers recalled messages from this source, followed by 30 percent recalling messages from manufacturers and 28 percent for retailers.
These messages also seem to be hitting the mark with the majority of consumers. Sixty-one percent of those who recall seeing messages from their electricity providers said that the message improved their perception of their provider, while about one-third said that there was no change and a small minority – three percent – said that it gave them a negative perception.
The report also explores messages that are most likely to interest consumers, the reasons why consumers participate in programs, additional information consumers would like to have on their energy usage and more. Findings are organized by a typical consumer decision-making journey.
